MISTER PARAIBA
MOZAMBIQUE PARAIBA
Discovery and Rarity
Mozambican Paraiba tourmaline was discovered relatively recently compared to its Brazilian counterparts, with significant deposits identified in the early 2000s.

Located primarily in the Cabo Delgado province, these mines have quickly gained fame for producing stunning, vivid blue and green stones that rival the quality and color intensity of the original Paraibas from Brazil.

Because of its association with a new and geographically distinct source, Mozambican Paraiba tourmaline is considered exceptionally rare.

Its limited supply, combined with the gem’s striking coloration and high demand among collectors and jewelers, makes Mozambican Paraiba one of the world’s most coveted and valuable gemstones. The discovery of these deposits has enriched the global gemstone market, offering a fresh and highly prized alternative to Brazilian Paraibas.
Mines in Mozambique
The main sources of Mozambican Paraiba tourmaline are in Cabo Delgado province in northeastern Mozambique. The most notable deposits are around Balama and nearby areas such as Moma, where high-quality stones have been recently discovered.

These deposits vary in size and development; some are large, commercial operations, while others are smaller mines and quarries. Overall, the Balama region remains the most significant hub for Mozambican Paraiba tourmaline.
Mozambique Paraiba
These stones have demonstrated vibrant blue, green, and turquoise results, similar to original Brazilian Paraiba, thanks to their high copper content.

Compared to older deposits in Brazil, Mozambique Paraiba production is limited, making them extremely valuable. Today, they are considered among the rarest and most coveted gemstones in the world.

Paraiba mining in Mozambique has become an important part of the country's economy, stimulating the development of the mining industry and creating jobs in the country.
